PPC Group launches 165 MW solar plant in Bulgaria

Green Forum
PPC Group will strengthen its presence in the Bulgarian energy market with the construction of a new 165 MW photovoltaic plant equipped with a battery storage system.

The project integrates a co-located energy storage solution with a nominal capacity of 25 MW and an installed capacity of 55 MWh, designed to enhance the plant's operation and contribute to grid stability. Both the photovoltaic facility and the battery storage system are expected to be completed simultaneously.

To connect the new facility to Bulgaria's electricity grid, a dedicated 33/110 kV step-up substation will be built within the project site. The plant will feature 260,000 state-of-the-art bifacial photovoltaic panels, while the battery storage system will utilize advanced liquid-cooled batteries with innovative LFP technology, ensuring optimized energy efficiency and operational safety.

The plant is projected to generate over 265 GWh of electricity annually—enough to supply more than 45,000 households—while reducing carbon emissions by approximately 133,000 tonnes per year.

This new 165 MW solar facility adds to PPC Group's existing 18 MW wind farm in Garda, Bulgaria. In addition to the 208 MW of renewable energy capacity currently operational or under construction, PPC Group is actively developing an additional 550 MW of renewable energy projects across Bulgaria.
