Nofar builds 265 MW solar plant in Romania

Green Forum
Nofar Energy, the operator of Romania's largest solar power plant, will build an even larger facility. The company has signed a turnkey contract, including operation and maintenance services, for a 265 MW solar power plant in Corbii Mari, Dâmboviţa County.

Located just west of Bucharest, the Corbii Mari project is set to become one of Romania's biggest photovoltaic installations. A consortium formed by Spain's COX Energy and Romanian company AJ Construction, part of the AJ Brand group, has been appointed as the contractor and future operator of the plant. Nofar Energy, the project developer, was advised by a cross-border Clifford Chance legal team led by its Bucharest office.

Nofar acquired the Corbii Mari project at the end of 2023. According to Clifford Chance Badea, this is the fourth EPC and O&M contract in Romania where it has provided legal assistance to Nofar Energy. Their collaboration now covers renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of over 650 MW.

Nofar Energy recently confirmed that construction timelines are being met for its major Romanian projects in Ghimpați (146 MW), Iepurești (169 MW), and Slobozia (74 MW). The latter has secured government support through Romania's first contract for difference (CfD) auction. The company's local project pipeline currently totals 970 MW of solar capacity and 120 MWh of battery storage.

Beyond Romania, Nofar Energy also announced the recent grid connection of its solar park in Ada, Serbia – the country's largest to date.
