Rezolv Energy launches Bulgaria's St. George solar park

Rezolv Energy has commissioned the St. George solar park in Silistra, Bulgaria, marking the company's first project to become operational. The 225 MW facility reached full operational status in under three years from acquisition of development rights.

Built on a 165-hectare brownfield site at the former Silistra airport, the project transforms disused land into renewable energy infrastructure. The €270 million investment comprises nearly 400,000 solar panels and will generate around 313 GWh of electricity annually over at least 30 years of operation.

The facility includes a 90 MW / 240 MWh battery energy storage system, supported by a grant under the EU's NextGenerationEU programme. The storage system will enhance grid flexibility by enabling energy generated during peak sunlight hours to be deployed when most needed.

"St. George began as a vision to transform a disused brownfield site into a renewable energy project that could make a contribution to Bulgaria's energy security and climate goals," said Alastair Hammond, CEO of Rezolv Energy. The project was delivered alongside Bulgarian partners including Solarpro and CMC Europe as EPC contractors, with Green Solar Energy handling high-voltage grid connection works.

Construction was supported by €90 million in debt financing from the International Finance Corporation and Raiffeisen Bank International. The project is underpinned by a 12-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreement with Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe, supplying 110 GWh of renewable electricity annually.
