Romania buys €610 million worth of electric trains from Poland's PESA

Green Forum
Romania signed a €610 million contract with Polish rolling stock manufacturer PESA to purchase 62 new regional electric trains, announced The Romanian Railway Reform Authority (ARF).

The new trains will be used on ten regional routes across Romania: Bucharest-Ploiesti-Brasov, Bucharest-Adjud, Iasi-Pascani-Suceava, Arad-Timisoara-Caransebes, Huedin-Cluj-Bistrita, and Constanta-Fetesti.

The contract involves the purchase of 62 electric short-distance trainsets and their maintenance for a period of 15 years, with the possibility of extending the maintenance period by a further 15 years, without a competitive procedure, by concluding an additional act.

The project will be financed by the Modernisation Fund (non-reimbursable European funds) and co-financed by the state budget.

The delivery period for the first set of frames is 24 months from the signing of the contract, and the delivery of the entire batch of 62 frames will take 36 months, plus a maintenance period of 15 years. The electric trainsets consist of three coaches and provide 224 seats.
