Romania launches €25.6 million geothermal plant

Green Forum
The Oradea City Hall has completed a €25.6 million investment project, funded through non-reimbursable financial support from the Ministry of Investments and European Projects.

The project involved the construction of a new geothermal plant in the Nufărul I district, with an installed capacity of 18 MW.

Built from the ground up, the facility operates using two deep extraction wells and two reinjection wells, each reaching a depth of approximately 2,800 meters. The thermal energy generated is distributed through the urban heating system via over 270 mini thermal substations, each installed at the base of residential buildings in the district.

This geothermal initiative is part of Oradea's broader strategy to modernize its centralized heating system. In addition to the geothermal plant, the city's plan includes investments in improving network efficiency, expanding renewable energy sources, and digitizing public services.
