Photon Energy and Hyperion Renewables sign 38 MW solar deal

Green Forum
Photon Energy N.V. and Hyperion Renewables have announced the signing of an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for a photovoltaic project located in Săliște, Romania. Originally planned at 34 MW, the project will now be expanded to 38 MW through joint efforts by the two companies.

Developed by Hyperion, a prominent Portuguese renewable energy developer active in Romania since 2021, the project is part of a broader portfolio of over 500 MW in solar capacity across the country.

Under the EPC contract, Photon Energy will manage the system design, procurement of technology, and construction works. In addition to these services, the company will also oversee operations and maintenance (O&M) for the first three years of the plant's lifecycle, ensuring long-term performance and reliability.

“We are proud to collaborate with Hyperion Renewables on this landmark solar project in Săliște,” said Georg Hotar, CEO of Photon Energy Group. “This development highlights our capacity to deliver utility-scale, turnkey photovoltaic systems that drive the shift to clean energy. By combining our EPC and O&M expertise with Hyperion's strategic vision, we are laying the groundwork for a successful and sustainable energy infrastructure. Our goal is to generate long-term value, support regional economic growth, and help Romania achieve its renewable energy targets.”

Construction is expected to begin in Q3 2025, with commercial operations targeted for Q3 2026.

The Săliște facility marks Hyperion's first project in Romania to reach the construction phase, a key milestone for the developer.

“Romania is a priority market for us,” said Aytea Amandi, CEO of Hyperion Renewables. “The Săliște project represents a major step forward, demonstrating our ability to translate development plans into operational assets. We look forward to further expanding our presence and contributing to Romania's energy transition.”

During construction, the project is anticipated to create between 35 and 50 local jobs, reinforcing its role in supporting economic development in the region.
