Ensys Group invests €25 million in green projects in Romania

Green Forum
Ensys Group, a key player in Romania's photovoltaic systems sector, is set to launch a green hydrogen production plant in Bihor County.

The project, which will receive €16 million in non-refundable funding through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), represents a total investment of €25 million and will play a pivotal role in Romania's energy transition and efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

The facility, located in the village of Ciumeghiu, will have an annual production capacity of 1,500 tons of green hydrogen. This renewable fuel, produced from sustainable energy sources, is seen as vital to Europe's energy future, offering a crucial solution for decarbonizing industries and transportation.

This project is part of a broader strategy by Atnom, a subsidiary of Ensys, to expand its footprint in the green energy sector. Atnom's second major initiative involves building a lithium battery gigafactory in Ișalnița, Dolj County, with a €65 million investment, €35 million of which is funded by the PNRR. The factory will have an annual capacity of over 1 GWh and will produce key electrical distribution equipment, such as medium and low-voltage switchboards and substations. The first batteries are expected to roll off the production line in the third quarter of 2025.

Additionally, Atnom has successfully completed a €6 million project focused on the research, development, and manufacturing of batteries for mobility and aerospace applications in Oradea.

These investments, set to be operational by the end of 2025, are expected to enhance Romania's position in the European renewable energy market, boosting its competitiveness and contributing to the continent's green energy transition.
