University Politehnica Bucharest invests in green energy. The university has signed a project worth over €5.87 million, funded through the Modernization Fund program, administered by the Ministry of Energy.

The National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest has secured a project worth €5,877,702.25 through the Modernization Fund program – Ministry of Energy: Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Storage.

Politehnica Bucharest signed a significant contract for the implementation of an energy modernization project worth €5,877,702.25, financed through the Modernization Fund program, administered by the Ministry of Energy. The contract was signed in the presence of the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, and the Rector of the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, Mihnea Costoiu.

This project, titled "Ensuring Electricity Supply by Installing Photovoltaic Systems for Self-Consumption in the UNSTPB Buildings," aims to install photovoltaic systems on 56 buildings across the POLITEHNICA Bucharest campuses: Regie, Noul Local, and Leu. The project will bring multiple benefits to both the university and its academic community.

By installing these photovoltaic systems, Politehnica Bucharest will ensure a green and sustainable energy source for its daily activities, reducing its dependence on conventional energy sources and lowering energy costs. The total installed capacity will be 7.04 MW, generating approximately 7,618 MWh of electricity annually. This energy will be efficiently distributed across the three campuses, providing 1,526 MWh/year for Regie, 5,458 MWh/year for Noul Local, and 632 MWh/year for the Leu campus.

The investment in this project not only focuses on energy cost savings but also directly improves the quality of life for the entire academic community. Students and staff will benefit from better conditions in dormitories and classrooms due to increased energy efficiency and optimized energy consumption. At the same time, the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions will contribute to a healthier and cleaner environment for the university community.

"This financial support represents a firm commitment by the Ministry of Energy to assist public institutions in transitioning to renewable energy sources and to encourage the adoption of innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact. The implementation of this project at the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest is a concrete example that sustainable development can go hand in hand with improving the quality of life and enhancing educational processes," said Mihnea Costoiu, Rector of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest.

Additionally, through this initiative, the university takes an active role in promoting social responsibility by committing to transforming the campus into a "green campus." This effort not only reduces energy costs but also provides a more sustainable and environmentally friendly educational environment, contributing to the formation of a generation of engineers and specialists who will continue to develop innovative solutions for the future.

The project will strengthen the university's status as a model of best practices in the energy transition in Romania, serving as an example for other higher education institutions.
