AQUILA meets 2026 emissions target two years early

Green Forum
AQUILA, a leading distributor in Romania's fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector with over 30 years of experience, announced significant progress in 2024 under its 2022–2026 Sustainability Strategy, built on the core pillars of environment, social responsibility, and governance (ESG).

In 2024, the company expanded its Scope 3 emissions reporting to cover all relevant categories and successfully met its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target for Scopes 1 and 2 two years ahead of schedule. Compared to the 2021 baseline, AQUILA recorded a 13% reduction using the location-based method and a 15% reduction using the market-based method. Energy intensity relative to revenue dropped by 10%, driven by fleet and equipment upgrades, space optimization, and increased use of renewable electricity, which represented 54% of the company's consumption in 2024. AQUILA now targets reaching 80% renewable electricity use by 2026, in line with its decarbonization plan.

“Sustainability is not just a component of our strategy, but a firm direction for development,” said Răzvan Bagherea, AQUILA's Organization and Human Resources Director. “Freight transport and logistics contribute roughly 10% of global GHG emissions, and we recognize our responsibility. Our efforts reflect a commitment to reduce our environmental impact, integrate ESG principles in every area—from investments to resource management—and build responsible partnerships.”

In 2024, AQUILA continued to prioritize sustainability investments, including modernizing warehouse and office equipment, installing LED lighting, upgrading its fleet with Euro 6-compliant vehicles, and signing contracts to purchase 100% renewable electricity.
