PepsiCo releases its 2023 sustainability report

PepsiCo has released its 2023 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) progress report. The comprehensive suite includes an ESG Summary, ESG Topics A-Z, and the ESG Data Hub, updating stakeholders on pep+, its global transformation program aimed at enhancing long-term business performance and value.

Throughout 2023, PepsiCo achieved several goals ahead of schedule, introduced new targets, and made significant strides in others, although challenges remain, particularly in packaging initiatives. 

Through innovative approaches, strategic investments, pioneering partnerships, and the collective efforts of its 318,000 global associates, the company reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 13% and total Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 5% year over year, decreased the use of virgin plastic from non-renewable sources by 4% annually, expanded global regenerative farming to over 1.8 million acres and improved water-use efficiency at high-risk company-owned locations by 25% compared to a 2015 baseline, achieving this goal two years earlier than anticipated.

The company also facilitated safe water access for more than 10 million individuals, surpassing a cumulative total of 91 million since 2006, set new targets to reduce sodium content and incorporate diverse ingredients, with 36% of food volume meeting or exceeding these sodium goals, and delivering 75 billion portions of diverse ingredients.

Lidl Romania exceeds 2030 sustainability targets early

Lidl Romania has published its eighth sustainability report for the 2024 financial year, announcing accelerated progress in reducing environmental impact. The retailer has achieved its international 2030 target for transitioning to natural refrigerants, with these now used in 100% of logistics centres and 81.7% of stores, compared to the original goal of 100% of logistics centres and 40% of stores. The company has also increased its green energy usage to 80% of total consumption.
