OMV Petrom has released its Sustainability Report for 2023, showcasing notable advancements in economic, environmental, and social realms alongside its strides towards sustainable development.

CEO Christina Verchere emphasized the company's unwavering commitment to sustainability, firmly integrated into Strategy 2030. The year 2023 marked significant progress in executing this strategy, notably in transitioning to a low-carbon business, with key milestones achieved in the renewables and e-mobility sectors. The commencement of the Neptun Deep project further solidified the company's dedication to facilitating a seamless transition to a low-carbon economy. Efforts to reduce emissions persisted, with a steadfast goal of achieving a 30% reduction in carbon intensity from 2019 levels by 2030.

The sustainability framework centers on transitioning to a low-carbon business model, responsible operations, community engagement, and fostering innovation and digitalization. Aligned with global initiatives, OMV Petrom supports the Paris Climate Change Agreement and contributes to the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Highlights from the OMV Petrom Sustainability Report 2023 include:

Over 1 GW of renewable energy projects, alongside the installation of 270 recharging stations within the regional network.
An 11% reduction in carbon intensity of operations compared to 2019.
Approximately a 9% reduction in Scope 1-3 emissions from 2019 levels, with significant reductions in flaring and venting by 61%.
Improved waste management, with a total waste recovery rate reaching 82%.
Extensive employee health screening campaigns involving over 6,700 employees, averaging 33 training hours per employee.
Enhanced gender diversity with women representing 30% of management positions.
Strong support for local economic growth, with 90% of expenditures directed towards local suppliers.
Continued investment in social projects, with over EUR 40 million allocated and benefiting approximately 850,000 individuals.
As a testament to its sustainable practices, OMV Petrom's management was recognized for its strength in sustainability, securing inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series and Sustainalytics' 2024 Top-Rated ESG Companies List. Additionally, the company was honored with Silver Supplier status by EcoVadis.
