EIB and Cetelem sign €93 million deal for green home projects

Green Forum
The European Investment Bank (EIB) Group has signed a €93 million synthetic securitization agreement with Cetelem, the Spanish brand of BNP Paribas Personal Finance, to support green investments aimed at improving residential energy efficiency.

Through this agreement, Cetelem will be able to unlock €200 million in financing for household-led projects that enhance energy efficiency in homes across Spain. The funding will support a wide range of eligible investments, such as home renovations, small-scale renewable energy systems, and the installation of energy-efficient equipment—including high-performance boilers, insulation windows, and solar panels.

The initiative will generate a new portfolio of climate-focused loans for households, to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to the fight against climate change. Many of the financed projects are expected to take place in cohesion regions, where income levels are below the EU average.

This agreement highlights the EIB Group's continued role in promoting innovative financing tools like securitization, which are designed to unlock private capital for green projects, lower the financial risk for lenders, and support the broader goals of the EU Capital Markets Union.
