PPC launches €5.75 billion plan for green tech hub

Green Forum
PPC Group has announced a €5.75 billion strategic investment initiative aimed at converting former lignite mining areas in Western Macedonia into a major center for green energy and technology, serving both Greece and Southeastern Europe.

The plan was presented by PPC Group Chairman and CEO, Georgios Stassis, alongside Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. It outlines a series of new developments expected to generate up to 20,000 jobs during the construction phase and approximately 2,000 permanent roles once operational.

A key element of the plan is the development of a 300 MW mega data center at the Agios Dimitrios power plant site. Construction is set to begin as soon as agreements are finalized with the hyperscale operators who will manage the facility. Completion is targeted for 2027. Once built, the data center will rank among the largest in Europe.

The €2.3 billion project is expected to significantly boost employment and drive economic growth, with the potential to attract a broader tech ecosystem to the region. The facility will be powered through a "behind-the-meter" setup, meaning it will not add demand to the national power grid.
