HORNBACH Romania to launch reusable plant trays

Green Forum
HORNBACH Romania, a key player in the local DIY retail market, will launch reusable plant trays across all nine of its stores in the country with the start of the spring season.

This initiative will follow a successful pilot program in HORNBACH stores in Germany and will mark the European rollout of an innovative system developed by Euro Plant Tray.

"The introduction of reusable trays is a significant milestone in reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and reflects our strategic direction in product development. Most importantly, this initiative enables us to drastically reduce the volume of plastic waste generated each year," said Radu Oniga, General Manager of HORNBACH Romania.

Designed with ergonomic handles and rounded edges, the trays offer ease of handling, while special watering slots ensure optimal hydration for plants.

"Our international suppliers are fully on board with this reusable system, and the benefits speak for themselves. But above all, meaningful resource conservation can only be achieved if we work together," added Oniga.

The trays are built to last up to 10 years and can be reused in over 100 cycles. Customers also have the option to use them when transporting purchased plants, by paying a refundable deposit.

HORNBACH is one of the founding members of Euro Plant Tray, the organization behind this sustainable solution. Since its inception, the initiative has gained momentum, with more partners joining the effort to establish a new eco-friendly standard in the horticultural industry.
