Holcim Romania reforest 8 hectares of degraded Land

Green Forum
This spring, Holcim Romania, in partnership with the “Plantăm fapte bune în România” initiative (EcoAssist Association), planted 40,000 acacia saplings on 8 hectares of degraded land in the village of Deveselu.

The project goes beyond planting — it includes the long-term care of the young trees over a period of at least 3 to 5 years, until they reach the maturity of a dense forest.

"Reforestation campaigns have been a priority for us for nearly 15 years. ‘Building for people and the planet' is not just a mission we embrace through the low-carbon construction materials we produce, but also through long-term environmental responsibility initiatives. Restoring degraded land through afforestation yields tangible results — forests built from the ground up that protect us and support the development of natural habitats," said Alina Cristea, CSR and Educational Programs Manager at Holcim Romania.

Holcim Romania's involvement will continue this autumn, when an additional 55,000 forest saplings will be planted, expanding the reforested area to a total of 19 hectares.

“Plantăm fapte bune în România” launched its first reforestation actions in 2011. Since 2012, Holcim Romania has been among our earliest financial supporters. We've also had the consistent support of Holcim employees as volunteers in planting campaigns. Their ongoing sponsorship and volunteer engagement have contributed greatly to the success of our initiative. Between 2021 and 2023, Holcim focused its efforts in Brașov County, and starting this year, attention has shifted to Olt County. We see Holcim as a long-term partner — their strong financial commitment gives us the confidence and stability to keep reforesting Romania, season after season, year after year,” said Simona Camburu, Co-founder and Fundraising Coordinator of “Plantăm fapte bune în România.”
