RWE and PPC launch 567 MW solar projects

Green Forum
RWE and PPC are driving the energy transition through their joint venture, Meton Energy S.A., which has approved the final investment for two major solar projects in Central Macedonia.

The Kotyli and Neo Syrakio farms will deliver a combined capacity of 567 MWp (518 MWac), with construction set to begin this spring and commissioning expected in 2027. Once operational, the projects are projected to power over 140,000 households annually.

Meton Energy has secured 10-year bilateral Power Purchase Agreements with PPC and RWE Supply & Trading for the sale of the generated green electricity. The €418 million investment is backed by €175 million in EU Recovery and Resilience Facility funds under “Greece 2.0,” with the balance covered through €169 million in commercial debt and shareholder equity.

RWE Renewables Europe & Australia (51%) and PPC Renewables (49%) have already energized five solar farms totaling 210 MWp, with a sixth project (315 MWp) completed and pending energization. An additional three projects (625 MWp) are expected to come online by end-2025. Altogether, the nine projects—located in Western Macedonia on the site of the former Amynteo lignite mine—will total 940 MWp (870 MWac).
