Agro Transilvania starts solar park to cut energy costs

Green Forum
Centrul Agro Transilvania S.A., a public company overseen by the Cluj County Council, Romania, has launched construction of a photovoltaic park within the market complex.

The solar installation will have a peak capacity of over 550 kWp and is expected to produce around 613,000 kWh annually, ensuring a reliable, cost-free, and sustainable energy supply over the long term.

Alin Tișe, President of the Cluj County Council, commented: “We've kicked off construction with strong momentum on this energy project, which is designed to reduce the market's operating costs by covering at least one-third of the annual electricity consumption at the Dezmir wholesale market. Our goal is to complete the works as quickly as possible, so we can bring the system online before the Easter holidays.”

The green investment at the Agro Transilvania Market is being developed through a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Greenvolt Next. As part of the agreement, the entire photovoltaic installation will be transferred to Centrul Agro Transilvania in 2035.

According to projections from the Cluj County Council, the Dezmir Agro Center will save approximately €384,000 during the first 10 years of operation, with total savings expected to reach around €1.8 million over a 25-year period.
