EIB invests €30 million in Romanian wind project

Green Forum
The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide up to €30 million to co-finance one of Romania's largest onshore wind projects, Pestera II, located near Constanta on the Black Sea coast.

This investment supports Romania's transition to green energy and greater energy independence.

Developed in partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), the project is part of a total investment exceeding €500 million. Pestera II is expected to have an installed capacity of around 400 MW, capable of supplying power to over 1.4 million Romanian households annually. Construction is set to begin later this year.

EIB Vice-President Ioannis Tsakiris emphasized the project's role in enhancing Romania's renewable capacity and contributing to the EU's climate goals. Radu Gruescu, Partner at CIP, noted the project's long-term benefits for Romania's energy independence and decarbonization targets.

CIP, a global leader in greenfield renewable energy investments, manages approximately €32 billion and specializes in wind, solar, biomass, and other sustainable projects.
