EDP Renováveis (EDPR) unveiled a 202-megawatt (MW) solar energy park in central Portugal, marking its largest such facility in Europe, according to parent company EDP (Energias de Portugal).

Situated in the municipalities of Alenquer and Azambuja, north of Lisbon, the Cerca project boasts over 310,000 solar panels and is projected to generate an estimated 330 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually. This output is sufficient to power 100,000 households or approximately 1% of Portugal's population.

EDP Renováveis presently operates solar capacities totaling 540 MW in Portugal and has announced plans to launch a 1 GW renewable energy project in the country by 2026.

Duarte Bello, a board member of EDP Renováveis responsible for Europe and Latin America, expressed the company's commitment to exploring new solar initiatives that will significantly contribute to the energy transition.

Intending to direct half of its global investments into solar energy by 2026, EDP has ramped up its investment in solar projects worldwide.
