Brasov City Hall secures over €945,000 funding for 80 EV charging stations

Green Forum
Brasov City Hall secured €945,751 in non-repayable funding for the installation of 80 electric vehicle charging stations. Currently, the municipality is installing 200 stations at various stages of implementation.

The City Hall continues to implement its strategy to promote environmentally friendly transportation solutions by providing the necessary infrastructure. One of the ecological mobility solutions is electric transportation, whether it's trolleybuses, buses, or electric cars.

For the latter, one of the essential elements for developing this type of transport is the existence of charging stations. The Brasov City Hall has initiated an extensive program to develop a public network of charging stations, reaching approximately 250 stations, located in heavily trafficked areas and within neighborhoods, with most being funded with non-repayable funds.

The most recent non-repayable funding obtained by the municipality, on March 4th, is from the Environmental Fund Administration, for the installation of 80 charging stations.

"We continue our program to transform Brasov into an environmentally friendly city, a true 'green city.' We have secured funding for an additional 80 charging stations, which will be located within neighborhoods to provide this service to residents. Through this project, Brasov reached 250 public charging stations, some installed, others at various stages of implementation, but all with secured funding. Brasov is certainly one of the most electric vehicle-friendly cities. We aim to make Brasov the green capital of Romania and achieve ambitious targets regarding pollution reduction. However, to encourage Brasov residents to switch to electric transportation, we must also provide the necessary infrastructure for charging electric vehicles," stated Mayor Allen Coliban.

Currently, the city hall has installed the following public stations:

4 electric vehicle charging stations 50 kW DC + 22kW AC, a project funded from the local budget, free charging (Nicolae Iorga Street, at Titulescu Park);
2 11 kW AC charging stations connected to the public lighting system, project funded from the local budget – operational since 2016, free charging (Eroilor Boulevard, Art Museum Area – Capitol, public parking);
8 slow charging stations, free, at Regina Maria Parking;
10 stations, with an alternating current charging system, 22 kW, installed in public parking lots, with free charging: Grivitei Boulevard no. 49; Grivitei Boulevard no. 69; Bucuresti Avenue, ramp towards Carpaților Street (opposite the State Inspectorate in Construction) – 2 stations; Crinului Street – 2 stations; Avram Iancu Street, near the intersection with Morii Street; Avram Iancu Street, near Vel-Pitar factory; Independentei Street, near Tractorul Square; in the parking lot at the Zoo.
Projects under implementation:

15 charging stations 100kW DC + 22kW AC, a project in implementation, to be completed by the end of next month (project funded by the Environmental Fund Administration);
90 charging stations, a project funded through PNRR (22 stations 100kW DC + 22kW AC and 68 stations 2×22 kW AC);
15 charging stations 100kW DC + 22kW AC, funding contract signed (project funded by AFM);
80 stations 2x22kW (funding approved yesterday by AFM).
These are added to other PNRR-funded projects, which also include charging stations (housing for young people, energy renovation of residential buildings, etc.).

In the municipality of Brasov, there are 1,136 electric vehicles registered, including 866 cars and 71 motorcycles. Additionally, there are 5,079 hybrid cars, with a significant number being plug-in hybrids.
