Softronic secures financing to modernize 19 electric locomotives for CFR

Banca Transilvania has announced that it grants financing of almost €32 million to the Softronic company from Craiova. The loan is intended for the modernization of 19 electric locomotives, the beneficiary being CFR Călători. BT is the main financier of Softronic, with whom it has been collaborating for over 20 years. Through this new financing, Banca Transilvania contributes to increasing the sustainability of the transport sector in Romania and production companies with Romanian private capital, the bank states in a statement.

The contract, with a total value of €100 million, was awarded through public procurement within the Rolling Stock Modernization and Procurement Program, financed by PNRR.

Also, Deutsche Bahn Cargo Romania, a subsidiary of the railway carrier DB Cargo AG, purchases two new TransMontana TM 082 locomotives from Softronic. The first locomotive was already delivered at the end of December 2023, and the second TransMontana (respectively TM 085) is to be delivered at the end of April 2024.

Thus, DB Cargo will reach a fleet of 27 new locomotives, purchased in approximately 10 years from the manufacturer Softronic Craiova.

Also at the end of last year, Softronic Craiova delivered four new TransMontana locomotives for Green Cargo in Sweden.

In Romania, Softronic is the only manufacturer of electric locomotives with asynchronous motors and Hyperion multiunit electric trains, with exports to Sweden, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
