The number of electric cars registered in Moldova doubled last year

The share of efficient energy transport in the Republic of Moldova shows an upward trend in the last five years. Thus, in the period of 2018-2022, over 27,000 electric and hybrid cars were registered in the Republic of Moldova, according to the data of the Agency for Energy Efficiency (AEE) based on the information provided by the Public Services Agency. In 2022, the number of electric cars registered in the Republic of Moldova by natural persons has doubled.

At the end of 2022, about 700 electric cars were registered in the Republic of Moldova, which represents a double increase compared to 2021, when 355 electric cars were registered.

"With the development of the infrastructure, the number of electric cars registered in Moldova has grown explosively. In the last five years, the increase is 20 times from 99 to almost 2,000 electric vehicles, according to the data of the Agency for Energy Efficiency. The number of electric and hybrid cars exceeded 27,500 at the end of last year", said the Moldovan Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov.

Of the total of 1,998 electric cars, 1,489 are owned by individuals, and 509 by legal entities, the number is three times higher in the case of individuals. As for hybrid cars, 22,993 are owned by individuals, and 2,548 by legal entities, about ten times more in the case of individuals, with hybrid technology being increasingly popular.
