Oradea City Hall wants to build a €20 million PV park

Alina Oprea
Oradea City Hall is planning an investment of €20 million in the construction of a photovoltaic park on the site of the Bihor Episcopia slag and ash deposit. The photovoltaic park will have a capacity of 17.8 MW and will cover an area of 20 hectares. To support this investment project, the municipality of Oradea intends to attract European funds.

Oradea City Hall received four offers from companies interested in building the photovoltaic park with over 15,000 panels.

The offers were submitted by: Electrica Serv; the association formed by Global Technical System and Eximprod Engineering (with IGNA Construct SRL as a subcontractor and SC Alpin Sun SRL as a third-party supporter); the association formed by Electro-Alfa International, Servelect SRL, and General ME.EL Electric; is the association formed by Restart Energy One and TQM Services.

"The photovoltaic park on Matei Corvin will produce green energy that can be sold. The project is a first in Romania, as only two local public authorities, namely Oradea and Braşov, had such an initiative. This project aims to install a photovoltaic power plant on a piece of land owned by the municipality of Oradea, located between Matei Corvin and Santaului streets, around the municipal waste dump. The plant will be connected to the National Energy System, thus contributing to the increase in the production of electricity from renewable sources and to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions", announced Oradea City Hall.

The photovoltaic power plant provides for the installation of 15,168 monofacial photovoltaic panels, each with a unitary installed power of at least 670 Wp, respectively the related electrical equipment – 48,175 kW inverters and 51,850 kVA step-up transformer stations. In each station, 10 inverters can be connected in parallel.

The town hall also states that the photovoltaic panels will be placed on special metal support structures.

PV system users save on average €816 per year on electricity

7 out of 10 Romanians who install photovoltaic systems are from urban areas. Also, RON35,000 (€7,000) is the average value of the projects implemented and in the process of implementation, shows a study by the company Ensys, a supplier of turnkey photovoltaic systems in Romania. It shows that the amortization period of a photovoltaic system is 2-7 years. The study shows that 7 out of 10 Romanians who install photovoltaic systems are from the urban environment, and 8 out of 10 customers who install photovoltaic systems are men.
