Poland expands hydrogen bus fleet

Green Forum
MPK Poznań has entered into a new agreement with Solaris Bus & Coach for the purchase of five Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses, with an immediate extension of the order to include four additional vehicles.

The newly acquired buses are scheduled to be introduced into Poznań's public transport network by May 2026, further expanding the operator's fleet of 25 Urbino hydrogen buses and reinforcing a business partnership that dates back to 1996.

Javier Iriarte, CEO of Solaris Bus & Coach, expressed his enthusiasm:
“We are pleased that Poznań continues to invest in modern, zero-emission transport solutions and has once again chosen our hydrogen buses. This marks another significant step toward green and sustainable mobility in the capital of Greater Poland. Our long-standing cooperation with MPK Poznań is an honor for us and reflects the confidence placed in Solaris technology.”

The contract signing ceremony was attended by key representatives of MPK Poznań, including CEO Krzysztof Dostatni and Board Member Marek Grzybowski, alongside Mariusz Wiśniewski, Deputy Mayor of Poznań.

Krzysztof Dostatni, CEO of MPK Poznań, emphasized the importance of fleet modernization:
“Upgrading our fleet remains a top priority, as it enhances public transport comfort and underscores our commitment to environmental protection. Currently, our company operates approximately 330 city buses, with zero-emission vehicles accounting for 25% of the fleet. Once the latest hydrogen and electric buses are integrated, this figure will surpass 30%. The introduction of these new vehicles also allows us to phase out the least environmentally friendly ones.”
