OMV Petrom to plant 25 urban forests in Romania in 2024

OMV Petrom will continue the "Romania plants for tomorrow" project. For 2024, the planting of 25 urban forests in 14 cities is planned. Concurrently, planting actions will continue in areas in need of intervention, both urban and rural.

In total, it is estimated that over 560,000 seedlings will be planted with the help of partner associations and volunteers. The budget for this year amounts to €3.2 million.

"Together, we are closer to our goal of planting 1 million trees in cities by 2023-2025 to create or expand the much-needed green areas for these communities. This project benefits from the experience gained over time from 'Romania plants for tomorrow' and proves that when we work together for a common goal, we can achieve impressive results”, said Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.

The "Romania Plants for tomorrow" project expands to more localities to create urban miniature forests. Such a miniature urban forest aims to improve air quality, reduce noise, increase biodiversity, and mitigate the greenhouse effect. This year, plantings will take place in 14 cities, including Bucharest, Constanta, Ploiesti, Alexandria, and Targu Jiu. At the same time, plantings in rural areas will continue in areas that require intervention. The total number of seedlings to be planted in urban and rural areas this year is estimated at over 560,000.

Launched in 2020, "Romania Plants for Tomorrow" is the largest planting initiative funded by private funds in Romania: nearly 12 million euros for the period 2020-2024. Since the project's inception, over 2,800,000 seedlings have been planted. More than 22,000 volunteers have joined this effort, participating in 210 planting events nationwide.
