ENGIE Romania and Viitor Plus complete energy project

ENGIE Romania and the Viitor Plus Association have completed the project "Education and Practice in Building Energy Efficiency," an initiative that combines technical solutions with educational outreach for students and teachers nationwide.

Funded by ENGIE Romania through the Environmental Platform for Bucharest (a program of the Bucharest Community Foundation and ING Bank), the project reflects ENGIE's commitment to supporting the energy transition through environmental and efficiency-focused initiatives.

Over the course of a year, the project addressed both an immediate need—improving the energy efficiency of a technical building—and a long-term goal: training future generations and informing institutions about best practices.

The first intervention involved insulating the production hall of Atelierul de Pânză, a protected unit employing 80 people, including individuals with disabilities. Although relatively new, the building showed significant heat loss during winter.

To address this, a high-performance insulating film mounted on a lightweight aluminum structure was installed, improving thermal comfort and reducing energy consumption. Thermographic measurements showed up to a 2°C temperature difference between insulated and non-insulated areas, indicating lower heating costs.

The second part of the project focused on education. Viitor Plus developed a lesson on building energy efficiency, integrated into a broader climate change module. Topics included responsible energy use, efficient home design, renewable energy, green spaces, energy labels, and water conservation.

Over 450 teachers from more than 40 counties and Moldova participated, with educational materials downloaded over 3,000 times. Students were encouraged to apply their knowledge creatively through drawings and models of "energy-efficient houses."
