10 simple ways to reduce energy use at home

Green Forum
Improving energy efficiency in buildings plays a key role in building a sustainable future. It leads to lower costs, a healthier indoor environment, and a smaller environmental footprint. According to România Eficientă, efficient energy use is not about sacrificing comfort but about eliminating waste.

The initiative outlines ten simple actions every household can take to cut energy consumption without major investments:

  1. Use LED bulbs, which consume up to 90% less energy than incandescent ones.
  2. Turn off lights when leaving a room.
  3. Maintain indoor temperatures of 25–26°C in summer and 18–22°C in winter.
  4. Ventilate rooms efficiently to prevent energy loss.
  5. Choose appliances with A-rated energy labels to save up to 36% on consumption.
  6. Unplug chargers and devices when not in use.
  7. Activate “Eco” modes on compatible appliances.
  8. Run full laundry loads at 30–40°C.
  9. Set fridge temperatures to 4–6°C and freezers to -18°C.
  10. Cook using lids and cookware that match burner sizes.

România Eficientă is a nationwide private initiative by Energy Policy Group (EPG), financed by OMV Petrom. Launched in 2019, the project aims to help Romania meet its 2030 climate and energy efficiency targets through awareness campaigns and large-scale renovation of public schools.
