Polenergia launches largest solar farm in Poland

Green Forum
Polenergia, the largest private energy group in Poland, has begun the technological commissioning of its Szprotawa photovoltaic farm—its most ambitious solar project to date. With a planned capacity of 67 MW, this project represents a major step forward in the company's renewable energy strategy and marks a milestone for Poland's transition to clean energy.

Located across the municipalities of Szprotawa and Niegosławice in the Lubusz region, the Szprotawa solar farm is Polenergia's largest photovoltaic asset. Once fully operational and licensed, it will increase the company's total solar capacity to 149 MW and raise the combined renewable energy capacity of its onshore portfolio to 641 MW.

The project is currently undergoing technical testing after being energized. Panel arrays, inverters, transformer stations, and cable infrastructure are all being verified for performance. A request for a generation license has already been submitted to the Energy Regulatory Office, with approval expected in the coming weeks.

The solar installation is divided into two segments—Szprotawa I and II—and comprises over 107,000 bifacial modules covering more than 300,000 square meters. Some of the module rows extend up to 600 meters in length. The system includes 214 inverters and 10 medium-voltage substations responsible for voltage transformation of the generated power.

Szprotawa was strategically selected for its high solar potential and the broader economic development opportunities it presents. Lubusz Voivodeship is a region with growing industrial demand and an ideal environment for deploying renewable energy infrastructure to support the green transition of local businesses.

Construction of the solar farm took place between March and December 2024, following the grid connection agreement secured in 2021. The Szprotawa site is also located near Polenergia's Mycielin wind farm, although the two projects operate independently.

Polenergia's portfolio now includes 13 wind farms and, with Szprotawa's completion, eight solar farms. The commissioning of this latest project underlines the Group's commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint and supporting Poland's decarbonization goals.
