Ørsted and PGE greenlight 1.5 GW offshore wind farm

Green Forum
Ørsted and PGE have reached a final investment decision (FID) for the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm, which will be developed, owned, and operated in a 50/50 partnership between Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, Poland's largest energy company.

Located about 40 km off the Polish coast near Ustka, the wind farm is expected to be fully operational by 2027. The Baltica 2 project has secured a 25-year inflation-protected contract for difference (CfD) with the Polish government. All necessary permits have been granted, and a grid connection agreement has been signed with the Polish transmission system operator, PSE.

“The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, the largest renewable energy project in the Baltic Sea under development, will diversify Poland's energy mix, enhance energy security, and provide cleaner, more affordable energy. This investment marks a significant step in Poland's energy transition and will drive economic growth, attracting new investments and creating jobs across the country”, stated Dariusz Marzec, CEO of PGE.

The majority of the project's capital expenditure (CAPEX) is locked in, as all major component and vessel contracts have been signed, significantly reducing the project's risk.
