Botosani County Council wants to build PV projects of €2 million

The Botosani County Council and two subordinate units applied for financing from the Modernization Fund for three projects to realize a photovoltaic park and two photovoltaic power plants. The cumulative value of the three projects is RON 9.84 million, the equivalent of €2 million, of which the co-financing provided by the County Council represents approximately RON 2.4 million (€500,000).

"We continue to attract European funds, to translate the major county development project into reality as quickly as possible. These three projects, submitted for financing from the Modernization Fund, are significant to us. On the one hand, we are attracting European funds, which generate investments and jobs. On the other hand, we will provide part of the electricity needed by the "Mavromati" County Emergency Hospital, the Podriga Sanatorium, and the Sulita Medical-Social Unit. Thus, budget savings will be made, money that can be used for the development of medical and social services offered by the three units subordinate to the County Council", said Doina Federovici, president of the Botosani County Council.

The County Council project has a value of RON 8.5 million (€1.7 million) and involves the construction of a photovoltaic park with a power of 1 MW in Bucecea. The energy produced will be destined for the "Mavromati" County Emergency Hospital, one of the largest consumers in the county.

The Podriga Sanatorium applied for RON 812,000 (€162,400) in funding for the construction of a photovoltaic plant with an installed power of 99.36 KW, and the Sulita Medical-Social Unit submitted a project of RON 524,000 (€104,800) for the installation of a 59.76 KW photovoltaic plant KW.

"Green energy is a solution for the future. These projects are particularly important because they provide renewable sources a part of the energy needs of the units subordinated to the County Council. It is a first step in the implementation of the County Council's strategy to reduce energy costs. We plan to carry out other similar projects for subordinate units because the use of renewable resources reduces dependence on energy suppliers and contributes to the development of the county", said Cristian Nistor, the public administrator of the county and the coordinator of the project team.

The Modernization Fund is a key instrument for the development of investments in energy projects, which provide for improvements in energy efficiency, modernization of energy systems, and transition in coal-dependent regions in the EU Member States with GDP per capita at the market price of less than 60% of the EU average (10 states), states CJ Botosani.

The fund is made up of the revenues obtained by auctioning on the market 2% of greenhouse gas emissions certificates at the level of the European Union, for the period 2021-2030, and Romania has allocated a percentage of 11.98% of the total.
