Bucharest mayor to issue traffic permits for new property developments

Green Forum
Bucharest's Mayor Nicușor Dan has announced that he will be tasked with issuing traffic permits for new Urban Zoning Plans (PUZ), Urban Developing Plans (PUD) and construction authorizations.

Until now, this role belonged to a technical committee within the municipality. Under the new rules, this committee will only state its opinion on the traffic impact of new property developments, while the mayor will have a final say.

In his opinion, the committee has often permitted illegal projects in Bucharest's districts without verifying the legal context, but only the existence of traffic studies.

“There is another issue with traffic studies, because all conclude that investments are possible,” wrote the mayor in a Facebook post.

Dan went on to say that all traffic studies will be assessed, suggesting that new property developments that have the potential to generate additional traffic in certain areas will be rejected.
