EBRD considers €90 million loan for solar-thermal plant

Green Forum
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced that is considering a €90 million sovereign loan to support the construction of a large solar-thermal plant in Novi Sad, Serbia's second-largest city.

The project will be carried out by the district heating company Novosadska Toplana, in coordination with its sole owner, the city of Novi Sad, and Serbia's mining and energy ministry, according to an EBRD statement.

The plant will feature 38,600 square meters of solar collectors, seasonal heat storage, a heat pump, and an e-boiler, with a total value of €104.7 million. The loan approval is expected in December.

Co-financed by an EU grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), the project is part of the EBRD'sGreen Cities Window 1 Framework and Novi Sad's Green City Action Plan (GCAP), which addresses the city's top environmental challenges with focused investments and policies.

The project aims to help Serbia decarbonize its district heating sector and ensure efficient, reliable, and eco-friendly heating for households, institutions, and businesses in Novi Sad.
