Romania offers solar and wind grants to agri-food firms

Green Forum
The Agency for Financing Rural Investments (AFIR) has launched a new funding call, offering €150 million in grants for photovoltaic and wind power projects for self-consumption in Romania.

The call targets agricultural and food producers, including irrigation associations (OUAI/FOUAI), in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The grants are part of a broader €14 billion subsidy program by Romania's Ministry of Energy, aimed at promoting renewable energy. The funding is sourced from the EU's Modernisation Fund.

Applications are open until February 28, 2025, for projects involving both solar and wind power systems, with or without storage. The grants can cover up to 100% of eligible costs, with specific support for wind and solar investments:

Wind projects: €700,000 per MW for planned capacity.
Solar projects: €650,000 per MW for installations up to 1 MW, and €550,000 per MW for larger projects.

The budget includes €2 million for small wind projects and €18 million for those over 1 MW, while €90 million is available for PV systems under 1 MW, and €40 million for larger solar installations.

Companies can submit multiple applications, but no firm can receive more than €20 million in total funding.
