EBRD and EU to invest €500,000 to support new green technologies

Green Forum
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU) have allocated nearly €500,000 in grants to ten Ukrainian firms, aimed at fostering the development and implementation of innovative, climate-friendly technologies.

Each selected company stands to receive up to €50,000 to support their pioneering solutions, intended to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and combat climate change.

These grants will cover up to 75% of clean technology expenses, enabling businesses to utilize them across various stages of technology development, from prototyping and certification to establishing new production lines.

This marks the second round of climate innovation vouchers issued since the onset of conflict in Ukraine. In this phase, the EBRD and EU have collectively provided €1.1 million in climate innovation vouchers to Ukraine, to mitigate environmental harm and reduce energy consumption.

The Climate Innovation Vouchers program operates under the umbrella of the EBRD's Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC), supported by the EU's EU4Climate initiative. Greencubator, a Ukrainian non-governmental organization, has effectively managed the program in the country since its inception in 2017.

Among this year's awarded innovations are control mechanisms aimed at minimizing energy and water wastage, electric vehicles tailored for drivers with disabilities, eco-friendly heat pumps, and more.

The following firms have received grants:

-MICROL LLC: Developing tools to manage energy and water consumption in businesses to minimize losses and foster savings.
-MAITEK PLUS LLC: Providing the hospitality sector with smart, energy-saving management systems.
SMF Prodecologia: Implementing technology to enhance polymer recycling by 90 percent, using half the energy of primary recycling.
-Hajster LLC: Reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by replacing traditional heating systems with heat pumps operated through proprietary controllers and software.
-RMC Manufacturer Company: Substituting freon-based units with next-generation refrigeration to enhance efficiency, and durability, and reduce CO2 emissions.
-The One Innovation Water Technologies LLC: Introducing technology for water purification and desalination, significantly reducing wastewater generation.
-LUAZ Motors LLC: Developing wheelchair-accessible electric vehicles for drivers with disabilities.
Agrosolum LLC: Offering UAV-delivered fertilizers and eco-friendly pest control to promote CO2, fuel, and resource savings.
-ELEEK LLC: Developing new models of electric bicycles for international markets.
-K.Tex LLC: Utilizing recovered fibers in the production of medical, construction, and industrial non-woven materials, aimed at selling to garment manufacturers.

Since the onset of the conflict, the EBRD has allocated over €4 billion to Ukraine. The Bank's strategic priorities in the country include supporting the private sector, ensuring energy security, developing vital infrastructure, promoting food security, and facilitating trade.
