RetuRO, the administrator of the Deposit-Return System, opened the fourth regional packaging collection center in Otopeni, Ilfov County. The center is located within the Olympian Park North Bucharest industrial park and covers an area of 10,000 square meters.

It is the largest regional hub in RetuRO's collection infrastructure, with an annual counting capacity of approximately 900 million SGR packages and a sorting and processing capacity by material type (PET, metal, glass) twice as large. RetuRO opened other packaging collection centers in Cluj, Timis, and Brașov counties.

The center will manage and process beverage packages collected both manually from merchants and return vending machines and has an annual counting capacity of approximately 900 million SGR packages and a sorting and processing capacity by material type (PET, metal, glass) twice as large (1.8 billion SGR packages).

It will mainly serve the southern and eastern regions of the country, as well as neighboring counties where, by the end of April, approximately 70 million SGR packages had been returned, with Bucharest and Ilfov being the counties with the highest returns.

The center is equipped with advanced equipment, including PET and metal can counting machines, glass processing machines, optical sorters, and baling presses. Metal (aluminum and steel) and plastic packages will be counted, sorted, and compacted for delivery to recycling companies. Glass packages will also be counted, broken, and prepared for recycling. Additionally, bales from regional counting centers will be brought here and subjected to optical sorting.
