Romania and Turkey sign bilateral energy deal

Green Forum
Romania and Turkey have signed their first bilateral memorandum of cooperation in the energy sector, marking a significant step toward enhanced collaboration in both traditional and renewable energy fields.

The announcement was made by Romania's Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, following his participation in the International Summit on Natural Resources held in Istanbul.

The summit, hosted by Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, provided the platform for this strategic agreement. A key provision of the memorandum is the option for Romania to receive up to 4 million cubic meters of natural gas per day from Turkey, depending on demand. Minister Burduja emphasized that this flexibility brings much-needed energy stability in a complex regional context.

Beyond gas supply, the agreement also aims to boost cooperation in green energy. Discussions during the summit touched on Romania's Black Sea gas development (Neptun Deep), progress on the Tuzla–Podișor gas pipeline, and growing interest from Turkish investors in Romanian solar and wind energy projects.
