SAPE Secures PNRR funding for green hydrogen project

Green Forum
The Society for the Administration of Energy Participations (SAPE SA) has received funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for its energy storage project using green hydrogen.

The project, titled “Green Hydrogen Production Unit by Electrolysis – Hidrogen HY S.A.P.E. 10,” is valued at €11 million (excluding VAT), with €6 million financed through the PNRR.

The new facility will use 3 MW of renewable energy to produce 1.83 MW of hydrogen (H2), generating 425 tons of green hydrogen annually. It will consume 23,438 MWh/year of electricity from renewable sources and is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

SAPE President Bogdan Nicolae Stănescu emphasized the project's role in supporting the EU's Green Deal goals by balancing energy supply and demand through hydrogen storage. Located in Dârvari, Prahova County, where SAPE also operates photovoltaic parks, the project will help stabilize the energy grid by storing excess renewable energy in the form of hydrogen.

SAPE, established in 2013, manages various energy assets, with the Romanian state, via the Ministry of Energy, as its sole sharehold
