Brasov invests €21.8 million in construction of photovoltaic park

The Brasov City Hall is undertaking an investment project worth nearly €21.8 million. This project is financed 45% through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program, with the remaining 55% co-financed by the municipality, to construct a 20 MW solar power plant using photovoltaic panels, spanning 22 hectares in the Stupini neighborhood.

The photovoltaic plant will have an installed electric power of 20 MW in direct current at the photovoltaic panel level and 18 MW in alternating current at the inverter level. The plant will consist of 30,770 photovoltaic panels mounted on a fixed structure. As a result of this investment, there will be an estimated average annual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 21,002 equivalent tons of CO2 in the first year of operation. Thus, greenhouse gas emissions of 23,408.18 tons of CO2, will be reduced to 2,406.18 tons of CO2, according to a press release from Brasov City Hall.

„By the end of June, all panels will be installed, and the park will be connected to the national electricity grid. Over 90% of the public electricity consumption will be covered by this park. This includes public lighting, electricity needed for schools, kindergartens, nurseries, cultural institutions, and the production of artificial snow in Poiana. What does the new photovoltaic park mean in concrete terms? Money saved that we currently pay on the electricity bill. A new kindergarten can be built annually with the money we save. Or a nursery. Or a new school building," says the mayor of Brasov, Allen Coliban.
