The inauguration ceremony brought together energy sector leaders and local government representatives, highlighting the strategic value of this investment for the region's energy transition.
“The new unit in Katowice plays a fundamental role in GE Vernova's mission as a key technology partner for the region, working with our clients to support Europe's decarbonization,” said Stefan Hartge, Executive Director for Electrification in Central Europe at GE Vernova. “We are excited to expand our presence in Poland and partner with local stakeholders to deliver safe, secure, and reliable electricity across the continent.”
The Katowice office reflects GE Vernova's long-term commitment to Central and Eastern Europe and its growing role in supporting energy system transformation.
Sławomir Żygowski, President of GE Vernova in Poland, emphasized: “Our continued investment in innovation and sustainable energy solutions underlines GE Vernova's integral role in Europe's clean energy future. The new Katowice hub is a symbol of our enduring engagement with Poland and its neighbors, and it is poised to play a critical part in advancing our mission.”
Katowice's selection as the site for this new center is closely tied to the city's evolving identity. Long known as a heavy industry stronghold, Katowice is transforming into a modern, knowledge-driven economy.
“GE Vernova's decision to locate its office in Katowice is a vote of confidence in our city's potential,” said Jarosław Makowski, Deputy Mayor of Katowice. “It also confirms that Katowice has become a natural destination for companies involved in the global clean energy movement. With a strong engineering tradition, a skilled workforce, and academic infrastructure, we offer fertile ground for the development of sustainable technologies.”
With over 130 years of experience in the power sector, GE Vernova focuses on three pillars: power generation, wind energy, and electrification. The new Katowice hub will strengthen these activities by serving as a key technical platform for energy infrastructure projects in Central and Eastern Europe, a region undergoing rapid energy transformation.
This expansion follows GE Vernova's recent involvement in high-profile regional projects. In 2024, GE Vernova (through GE Power Sp. z o.o.) joined a consortium with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, Ørsted, and Polimex Mostostal to build onshore infrastructure for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm—one of Poland's largest renewable energy investments.
Through its new presence in Katowice, GE Vernova reinforces its role as a driving force in the global shift toward cleaner, more resilient energy systems, and as a trusted partner in helping Eastern Europe meet its decarbonization goals.
