EBRD to provide green financing for Bosnia and Herzegovina's residential sector

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a €7 million loan to UniCredit Bank dd Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the multi-donor Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) for the Western Balkans.

The GEFF aims to grant access to green financing for the nation's residential sector, benefiting individuals, housing groups, construction firms, and the public sector. UniCredit Bank will primarily focus on lending to households for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

In addition to loans, homeowners who meet energy-saving criteria may receive up to 20 percent cashback, funded by the European Union (EU) through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). Japan and the 

EU will provide technical and policy support to UniCredit Bank and residential sector enterprises.

Amina Mahmutović, President of the Management Board of UniCredit Bank, stated: “Our activities are aligned with our clients' needs, and we are pleased to offer them opportunities and support their journey toward a greener future by financing energy-efficient projects. Our goal is to promote energy efficiency by constructing and modernizing residential buildings, apartments, and structures."

Manuela Naessl, Head of the EBRD Resident Office in Sarajevo, commented: "This credit line will assist households in Bosnia and Herzegovina in investing in energy efficiency measures, reducing their carbon footprint, and improving their living standards, all while lowering their energy bills."

Etem Gestamp signs cross-border wind power deal with Rezolv

Etem Gestamp, the Sofia-based joint venture between Viohalco Group and Spain's Gestamp Group focused on aluminium extrusion and processing for the automotive industry, and Rezolv Energy, the Actis-backed independent power producer, have signed a 10-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) in Bulgaria. The VPPA will see Etem Gestamp buy electricity from Rezolv Energy's 461MW 'Vifor' wind farm, which is about to come onstream in Buzău County, Romania. It is the first cross-border wind PPA that has been publicly announced in Bulgaria.
