Bucharest invests €5 million in modernization of public lighting with LED technology

Bucharest City Hall obtained non-refundable funding from the Environmental Fund Administration (AFM) in the amount of RON25 million (€5 million) for the modernization of the public lighting system in the Capital. The project involves the efficiency and modernization of the public lighting system through the implementation of the telemanagement system and the use of devices with LED technology on the following 15 streets: Drumul Taberei, Brașov, Virtuții, Crângași, Turda, Averescu, Mărăști, Sibiu, Drumul Sării, 1 Mai, Camil Ressu, Theodor Pallady, Ion Mihalache, Calea Griviței, and Bd. București Noi.

"We will pay lower bills for the electricity consumed for street lighting", says the capital's mayor, Nicusor Dan.

It is also awaiting the AFM's approval of a request worth RON50 million (€10 million) for another 34 streets in the Capital.

"Through the investments made with these non-refundable financings, we will replace 10% of the public lighting in Bucharest - almost 13,000 lighting fixtures, which also means reducing public lighting expenses by over RON10 million (€2 million). In addition, the modernization of the lighting system will contribute to increasing the safety of citizens and car traffic at night", adds the mayor.

Also, 10 residential buildings, all historic monuments or located in protected areas in Bucharest, will be seismically strengthened and energetically renovated through PNRR funds in the amount of €15.4 million.

The Municipal Administration for the Consolidation of Buildings at Seismic Risk (AMCCRS) signed the ten contracts aimed at consolidating the buildings at the following addresses: Str. Blănari 11, Str. Blănari 14 (club A), Bd. Schitu Măgureanu 3 (confectionery Cireșica), 2 Dianei str., 17 Baltagului str., 11 Piata Pache Protopopescu, 173 Mihai Eminescu str., 53 Dacia Bd., Str. Domnița Anastasia 5 and Alexandru Macedonski str. 11.

These contracts signed now are added to the other buildings that have obtained financing through PNRR in the amount of approximately €30 million.

Until now, AMCCRS has obtained funding through PNRR for the seismic strengthening of buildings in the amount of approximately €45 million.
