Romania has signed the accession to the International Solar Alliance (ISA), a strong commitment of the Romanian government to support and promote solar energy as the main source of clean and sustainable energy. The signing of the document took place during a special event organized during the COP-28 conference, in the United Arab Emirates, according to a press release of the Ministry of Energy.
Romania joins 122 other member states of ISA, to actively contribute to the global green transition. Signing the accession to the ISA represents an important step in achieving the United Nations' goals of clean and sustainable energy until 2030.
By joining the International Solar Alliance, Romania assumes a leading role in promoting solar energy at the regional and global levels. ISA also represents a favorable environment for collaboration and knowledge transfer between member states, facilitating the creation of partnerships and investments in the energy sector. Thus, Romania will benefit from international expertise and financial resources to accelerate the implementation of solar energy systems and other innovative technologies.
"The signing of Romania's accession to the ISA is a historic moment for our country and reaffirms our commitment to actively contribute to protecting the environment and combating climate change through sustainable solar energy development. Romania is located in the European zone B in terms of sunshine and benefits from approximately 210 sunny days per year and has the highest solar potential in the south-eastern area of Europe" declared the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.
"The studies carried out evaluated the solar technical potential of Romania at the level of 19.35 GW (25.80 TWh), of which approximately 18.05 GW (24.18 TWh) can constitute an economic option to invest, in a scenario with We are confident that we will be able to achieve these ambitious goals and be an example of excellence in the field, including by developing the production chains of photovoltaic panels and related components, for which we are preparing to relaunch a call for projects (investment 4) from PNRR," added Sebastian Burduja.
The Minister of Energy, together with President Klaus Iohannis and a delegation of senior officials and experts in the field, represented Romania at the COP-28 conference in the United Arab Emirates. The presence of our country in this global forum demonstrates our firm commitment to the use of solar energy and active involvement in collective actions to combat climate change.
