OMV Petrom opens largest EV hub in Romania

OMV Petrom will expand its electric mobility infrastructure by adding fast-charging services for electric trucks, with 400 kW stations integrated into its network.

At Miercurea Sibiului on the A1 motorway, the company now operates the largest electric charging hub in Romania, offering a total of 34 fast-charging points—17 in each direction, 16 for cars, and 18 for trucks.

The charging stations are high-capacity: each car charger has a power output of 300 kW, allowing charging in 15–20 minutes. The truck chargers have a capacity of 400 kW, enabling an electric truck to fully charge in just 1.5–2 hours. In comparison, chargers with less than 25 kW require an entire night to complete a full charge.
The total installed power for vehicle charging reaches 10 MW (5 MW in each direction).

Charging services can be paid for either via payment terminals located next to the stations or through the OMV eMotion mobile app, available in the App Store and Google Play. The app provides customers with information about charger locations, and their availability status, and offers an easy and convenient way to pay.

“Our 2030 strategy includes the development of the most extensive network of electric charging stations in Romania, as part of our commitment to supporting transport decarbonization. The A1 motorway is one of Romania's main commercial routes and part of the pan-European TEN-T corridor,” stated Radu Căprău, OMV Petrom Executive Board Member responsible for Refining and Marketing.

“With this hub at Miercurea Sibiului, we offer transporters and drivers more than just the ability to refuel—whether with conventional fuel or electricity. We've created the perfect space for breaks, coffee, snacks, and shopping. We aim to stand out through the quality of our products and services and through the modern infrastructure we offer our customers,” added Adrian Nicolaescu, Head of OMV Petrom Marketing's Retail Division.

The stations and related facilities were built under a concession agreement between OMV Petrom Marketing and the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR). In addition to fuel pumps, the motorway service areas include extensive parking for cars, trucks, and coaches, public restrooms, service areas (water, air, vacuum), a shop zone with over 3,000 carefully selected products, and the Viva gastro area—offering high-quality coffee and food, including hot meals, sandwiches, salads, and desserts, freshly prepared daily by the station's chefs. Additional services available include road toll payments, money transfers, and vignette payments.

OMV Petrom operates a network of approximately 780 filling stations under the Petrom and OMV brands across Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, and Serbia. The company has developed a network of around 1,000 electric vehicle charging points across the region. In line with its strategy, OMV Petrom continues to expand its EV charging infrastructure, aiming to install over 5,000 charging points by 2030, positioning itself as the largest provider of electric mobility services in Romania. This initiative highlights the company's commitment to supporting the transition toward a low-carbon future.
