Romania launches second CfD auction for renewables

Romania's Ministry of Energy has launched its second Contract for Difference (CfD) auction to support the development of 2,000 MW of onshore wind and 1,472 MW of solar energy capacity.

The ministry has removed the 25% cap on the maximum capacity that can be awarded to a single applicant. This change is intended to enhance cost efficiency by allowing developers to scale up their projects and submit more competitive strike prices. Additionally, there are no limits on the capacity that can be included in each application, and participants are permitted to submit multiple bids. To address the risk of a large-capacity marginal bid being excluded, the rules now set the cap for marginal bids at 120%.

The maximum strike prices for this round are set at €80 per MWh for onshore wind projects and €73 per MWh for solar projects.

Bids must be submitted by July 11, and successful applicants are expected to be notified on August 14, based on the ministry's provisional schedule.
