Hidroelectrica has selected Waldevar Energy to implement the Nufărul Project, a pioneering renewable energy initiative set to become the largest floating photovoltaic (FPV) system installed on a hydroelectric dam in Europe. The project will be located on the Ipotești Dam along the Olt River, one of Romania's key hydropower corridors.

Valued at over 39 million RON (excluding VAT), the contract includes the full engineering, procurement, and construction of the 10 MW floating solar installation, with an estimated annual output of 13.4 GWh. The implementation timeline is set at 14 months, including four months for technical design and 10 months for construction and commissioning. Waldevar Energy will deliver a turnkey solution covering equipment procurement, modular floating structures adapted to aquatic environments, an optimised electrical configuration, and grid integration.

Kàroly Borbély, CEO of Hidroelectrica, commented that this marks the company's first FPV initiative and a major step toward diversifying its energy portfolio. Alessandro Amato, CEO of Waldevar Floating PV Systems, described the Nufărul Project as a breakthrough in integrating hydropower and solar energy, unlocking Romania's solar potential in hydropower basins.

With the project, Hidroelectrica aims to increase renewable energy generation, enhance the use of water surfaces, and create scalable models for other hydropower sites across Romania.
